Two crash victims exchanging war stories

Joe had Lucas Euser from Garmin Slipstream Pro Cycling Team visit him today.  It turns out that one of Joe's respiratory therapists is Lucas' mother. Lucas was hit by a car in Girona Spain during a training ride maybe a month or so ago. Besides some broken ribs, he also suffered a broken knee and has returned home (Napa) to recover and receive treatment.  Joe was soooo excited he almost missed his PT appointment but I wouldn't let that happen.  Lucas plans to visit again in between his own treatments and recovery. He is a wonderful guy and he and Joe really hit it off.  Joe, as you can imagine, loved to hear all the inside strategies, etc.

  1. Hi Joe,

I can't wait to hear all about the inside racing strategies when we see you on Sunday!

Love, Mary-Beth and Dale (and Poppy too!)

  3. Hi there, Dynamic Fineman Duo!

We were in Durango, CO for over a wk. I'm sure you've enjoyed the vacation from the daily, interminably long messages that I seem to have no control over.

As you know, we finally have a baby---a little girl, as was "forecast" (I wasn't trusting the tests, as I know several who got surprises in the delivery room). Flannery Rose was born at 1:59 a.m. on June 2 and mom and baby came home at 7 p.m. on the same day.

Flannery is as cute as a button but she screams like a banshee, esp. between 2 and 5 a.m. I don't know how so much racket can come out of something so little.

I've read all the posts you've put up while we were away and have had all kinds of emotions. Happy that you are making new friends among the staff, thrilled that Joe is relearning skills, laughing my socks off at the Rumble in Rehab, envious that Joe is having such interesting visitors, and admiration for Sandy and how she has been a champion throughout this ordeal. Sandy, please don't beat yourself up when your attitude takes a dive. You deserve a little letdown now and then--and, it's only natural, after all. I have you on a pedestal because I know I could not be the rock (star) you have been.

We hear that track Nats will not be in Indianapolis and the jury is still out on whether it will be L.A. or the Springs. We, of course, are hoping for the Springs just because it's easy for us---but, Jim says I'd really like the indoor track in L.A. I don't like heat, cold, wind and rain (at least for watching racing) so indoors would be a good thing for the weather wimp in me.

Love to you both. Keep on keepin' on---good things will happen.

    Glenna

  5. So great that you were able to meet with Lucas, Joe.

Brian said he visited you, 'the troops' are all doing well - I'm trying to keep them all in 'lean mean race machine' shape.

I'm going away for a week in June, and hope to come for a visit to see you in July.

3 candles lit in my office every day for both of you.
